I'm a graduate from SA (Class of 2011-2015) & an ex-prefect.
This post is dedicated to my juniors who aspire to become prefects.
Step 1
Do well at academics.
If possible, score straight As for UPSR.
Teacher wants someone intelligent so that the student won't fall behind in class after becoming a prefect since prefect duties will consume a lot of your time-staying back every Fri 4 meetings & duties if you're on cleaning duty, meetimgs for prefect party, prefect installation, camp, etc.
Plus, a prefect is supposed to be the students' role models, so you should show a good example to your classmates by acing your classes.
If you didn't, don't fret! Let bygones be bygones. It'a useless crying over spilled milk. You can either
Step 2
Be a good student!
Follow all the school rules.
Have a clean school record!
Try not to get any demerits.
Help teachers a lot.
Be on the teachers' good books.
Your teachers will be the one recommending you.
Plus, aside from making sure other students abide by the school rules, it's a prefect's duty anyways to help assiat teacher, so you're gonna do it sooner or later.
End
After that, you'll be well on your way through the selection process; interview, orientation-get as many signatures as possible, senior-junior aka practical then finally, your prefect installation!
Word of Advice
1 Be courageous to reprimand others or face the consequences of your actions aka being scolded during meeting
2 Never take off your blazer outside of class, labs eventhough it's hot.
3 Be passionate & dedicated to the board if you want to climb the ladders of success & earn yourself a position in the prefectorial board like Head Prefect, Bureau of Discipline, Documentation, etc.
4 Be polite. Say 'please'. Everone especially the seniors hate rude people.
5 If you're not stern, pester the student.
They'll get annoyed & give in eventually.
SA's Democracy System
Head Prefect nominees are nominated by fellow prefects during meeting.
Then, the nominees will go through a week of campaign-making flyers, badges, speeches & the whole school includimg teachers & students will vote!
